9/10 Kitchen

Start with one cabinet and drawer at a time.
To give everything a home, I like to use tools that help me give things a home and keep things together and organized. I also only have 1 of most things in my kitchen. Most of the time you only need one of each thing at any given time, so why clutter your space with things you will not use often? When organizing, follow the steps and keep only what you want and have room for. I like to use this organizer ( I found it at TJ Maxx) and use it to hold the 2 cookie sheets I have, and my cast-iron pan. It holds them up right so that they are easy to take out of the cabinet and also easy to put back.

I also use this rack to hold my lids. I have recently discovered that you can get 1 lid that will fit all of your pans, and I am really thinking about getting one. I'm not sure why I haven't done it yet. Maybe because I have the space for the lids now... but the idea of having to reach just one lid for any pot I am using would save me time. I'll get back to you on this! I also have 1 too many strainers- and I'm not sure why? Even professionals have hangups! Writing this blog is helpful, and I will be ordering one lid, and getting rid of a few things!!

Drawers are another space that you need to have organized and easy to find things. You waste time if all of your drawers look like a junk drawer. Drawer organizers or separators and so nice and give your items a home! I use different kinds throughout my kitchen!
This drawer I have my knives (love having them in a drawer instead of on my counter) fruit juicers, and my kitchen scissors (being used by one of my kids...) in the teal container.

This drawer has all of my other tools. I used the spacers in here. It makes it so much easier to find what I need. I have the regular silverware drawer, and another drawer for my toddlers soppy cups and plastic silverware. Another drawer is for towels and hot pads, and my last drawer is for my tupperwear. Every year on blackfriday, I buy a new set of tupperwear. I throw away all of the old stuff, its so nice to start the new year with a fresh set of tupperwear with matching lids!!

Maintaining your kitchen is easy when everything has its place and its easy to put it there. Make sure you and your family out their dishes in the dishwasher as soon as they are done eating- not just in the sink. Make sure you turn on the dishwasher every night before you go to bed, and empty it when you wake up in the morning. Hand-wash your hand wash items right away and dry and put away. It will only take a few minutes every time and will be easy to keep up on when you see how clean your kitchen is when you spend the extra 5 minutes after you eat. I will also clean dishes while I'm cooking. Once the food is baking or heating and doesn't need your constant attention, go through and put what you used but no longer need in the dishwasher, and wipe down countertops and get ready to plate the food. Then after you eat, you will only have a few things to clean. It won't take you a ton of time, and it will be done! When you let it pile up and get a little out of control, then it takes a lot longer to complete. A great rule to remember is if it takes less than 1 minute to complete do it right then and there. Most of the time you can load a dishwasher in less then a minute- so just do it right away!

Closet Clutter

The Before Picture Closets are always an easy spot to "shove things" and close the door, and go on with your day. I have helped many clients get different closets into shape. First I helped a woman with her walk in clothes closet. Lets start with her organization style- She took the quiz and discovered that she is "Precise". So she likes to see her belongings, and also wants them organized in a detailed way. She started with clutter in her closet they day she moved into her new house. She hadn't really taken the time to figure out where she wanted each item to go in her house. When it came time to moving day, she had movers helping her. She got overwhelmed and couldn't always answer where she really wanted it to go. So a lot of times the answer was "master bedroom closet." And then from there it just became too much to keep up with and she just left it there. 3 years later I was called in to help. She really was overwhelmed she was starting t...

Take the Quiz

My philosophy about organizing is to Organize. Maintain. and Enjoy. I have always wanted to figure out a way to get people organized and stay organized. Anyone can clean a space and make it look beautiful, but can they find a system and keep it that way? Most of the time, no. That is why I am here, and why I have created this quiz. Please take this quiz and record your answers. Keep in mind, you need to take the quiz as you currently are. Not what you wish you were or what you think you are. It is very important to understand your clutter before you can declutter and stay that way. What Type of Organizer are you? 1. Your countertops now are: a.EVERYTHING out, you like to see what you have, always. b. Tidy piles of anything, waiting to be put away. c. My counter tops are very clean, but please don’t look behind any doors or in any drawers. d. NOTHING on my counters, I take out and put away what I use. 2. When it’s time to declutter you feel; a. H...
