Persnickety

Persnickety, you are one of the lucky few who get organizing. It might just come naturally to you, or maybe you just understand how to make the retail organization work in your favor. Most retail organizing systems are made for your mind. Organization within organization and hidden to top it all off. Think of a filing cabinet, you can start with a hanging folder and then subcategorize in that folder with other folders, and keep going as detailed as you would like. For some this is just too much and is a waste of time and so they think that they just aren't organized people. For you, however, you feel so much at peace organizing within that filing cabinet. You don't mind the time it takes initially because in the end when you need that paper next time you will know exactly where to go or you can tell someone else where to go to find it for you. However, you still have some organizing hangups- you might have a hard time getting the exact system you need to make you happy. Until you get that system you have a disorganized mess that you just keep moving around until you get it in order. Your other hangup is your family, or the other people you live with- if they do not have your style (most likely will not) you will be fighting a losing battle trying to get them to organize your way. The happiest way for a persnickety person to live is organized. So when you figure out your family members styles of organizing you can set up systems that they will use and you will be happy because the end result is that your home is organized! I like to tell persnickety people to have a few systems in their home that they can get their detailed hidden system and feel at peace. Pick areas in your home that are either already designed to be organized to your style. A great example is the kitchen or smaller areas like your side of the bathroom or closet. Keep drop stations and kid playrooms as the areas to be organized in a more general less hidden style of organization. Below I have some examples of ways you might enjoy.  Because you already understand the idea and purpose behind organizing, I will just be showing great little hacks or ideas that maybe you haven't thought of yet!

Kitchens-

Drawer dividers are an amazing tool that can help any kitchen. Because the kitchen is used by the whole family, it is helpful to have systems that can be used by the person who is most oblivious to organization. Drawer dividers are the answer for a drawer, they keep like items together but can use more space of a drawer. It makes it so much easier to find tools quickly. A nice touch is to use them on a diagonal and you can fit larger items in your drawer and really utilize all of your space.

Drawers are an important space in every kitchen. The persnickety in me thinks we do not have enough of them in our kitchens but here is a great way to keep your Tupperware organized and easy to find matching lids with drawer dividers.

Another great way to organize your kitchen it to keep like items all together- like this coffee station. They have put the cups in the drawer which makes it so easy to reach the cup you want, and frees up space in the cabinet to hold other items such as your tea, sugar, and coffee pods.

Bathroom-
Another place where they never have enough drawers. People have gotten smarter though and have designed systems that can add more drawers under your sink! Then you have instant space to organize the way you normally do.

Drawer dividers are great!

and if you only have countertop space then find cute containers that will keep you items organized and hidden. Labels are everyone's best friends!

You really don't need a lot of help in the way of organizing. I find that your biggest struggles are the rest of your family. Have them take the quiz and then read their results and compromise with ways to organize your house. It is possible, and once you figure it out you will be so happy that the everyday clutter is picked up and put into areas where they belong!

11/15 Home office/Craft areas!

Go through all paperwork and decide what is trash, and what needs to be filed, and what needs to be dealt with right away! Create space for your new piles. We have a few different systems in our office- I have a "need to get to" tray with 3 slots one for each business and then a home one. The for Billy's Business we have wall organizers and each month is a different folder! This makes it so easy to file the papers quickly and they stay organized until tax time! And the third is we turned 2 drawers into small filing cabinets and one hold all of Billys past tax papers, and the other one is for all of our household papers. One drawer is in our office, the other is in our TV stand in our living room! Sometimes you have to get creative!! 10/15 Drop Zone!

So today's challenge is working on your Drop Zone! I love drop zones, the space can also be called a command center, mud room, or if you want to be fancy the owners suit. Usually is in a place that everyone can see and uses! I call it the drop zone because everyone in my family, including me, comes in and drops everything we are bringing into the house in this spot.If you don't have a spot for all of this yet, then you might be using your kitchen table, or kitchen island as your drop zone, which might be driving you crazy when its time to eat dinner!  Our drop zone is right when we come in from the garage. It's not a large space, but it is in the perfect spot of the house, and I added things that we needed to allow it to have a home for all of the things I wanted to keep in this area! First thing you need to do after you have cleaned everything out and decided what you are keeping, you need to make a home for everything you want in this room. Then you will n

"Special Mail" Organization

What do you do with your holiday cards, or any other "special mail" that you want to keep?  FIRST, I am here giving you permission if you don't have a lot of room, and have too many special cards every year, please let them go, recycle them and make room for the ones to come in 2021. I usually take that route- I love getting the cards and having them hang in my hallway, for the holiday season, then take them down, add any new addresses or birthdays to my contacts in my phone and recycle them.  ALSO it is OK to keep them as long as it is with intention and they are kept in an organized way. Piled all over the house, or shoved into a box that is shoved in a closet is not what I am talking about. This year I decided to try something different, I am going to make it a goal to keep all of the special mail (my kids get cards from all of the grandparents for all of the holidays plus all of the holiday cards, baby or  graduation  announcements, and wedding invitations ) in thi
