Prim and Proper Method is a new business created to help people to get organized, maintain the space, and enjoy their life. I have always been a naturally organized person. It is something that just makes sense to me and I feel so much better when my life is organized. Because it is something that seems to be so natural to me, I thought everyone could do it, so how would I make a business out of it? I felt like I needed to figure out an algorithm that after talking to a client and seeing their space I will know exactly how to help them. So I started asking friends and family some questions about organizing and what they do now and what they wish they could do. I read books, blogs and magazines. I listened to podcasts and audiobooks. After much thought to names and styles I think I have come up with my "algorithm". So far I have broken my ideas down into 4 categories, I'm quickly learning I need to maybe think of a couple more because many of us have 2 styles- so that is a work in progress. The main reason I wanted to learn how to help people organize is because I want them to be able to STAY organized. I can go into anyones home and clean, declutter, and put up pretty baskets and the before and after photos will be amazing and exactly what the client wants, but will it stay that way? Most likely not, because my style of organizing won't be their style. And I'm not just talking about the type of baskets or the color, I'm talking science. I'm talking about people using the skills that I have learned about, things that are going to keep people using the organizational style that works for them. Our brains are amazing and just like learning we have different ways of organizing. It can be broken down into pretty basic ideas- are you Visual or Hidden and are you General or Detailed. And then depending on my questions I can get to the bottom of you- are you Visual and General or Visual and Detailed, or Hidden and General or Hidden and Detailed. It really makes a huge difference in knowing how your brain remembers your items. And because VG, VD, HG, and HD are not fun I took my name Prim and Proper and found words that worked with my theme- who doesn't love a good theme- and here they are, we will get into what each means in another post;
Aristocratic- Visual General,
Precise- Visual Detailed,
Conventional- Hidden General, and
Persnickety- Hidden Detailed of clients that I have dealt with along with my own personal styles!
