Take the Quiz

My philosophy about organizing is to Organize. Maintain. and Enjoy.
I have always wanted to figure out a way to get people organized and stay organized. Anyone can clean a space and make it look beautiful, but can they find a system and keep it that way? Most of the time, no. That is why I am here, and why I have created this quiz. Please take this quiz and record your answers. Keep in mind, you need to take the quiz as you currently are. Not what you wish you were or what you think you are. It is very important to understand your clutter before you can declutter and stay that way.

a.EVERYTHING out, you like to see what you have, always.

look behind any doors or in any drawers.

d. NOTHING on my counters, I take out and put away

what I use.

a. How could I possibly give this away?

b. Overwhelmed and don’t know where to start.

that takes me past the donation drop off.

3. When you look at your bedroom you see:

a. Clothes Everywhere but in the closet or dresser.

b. I’m waiting for time to make it perfect, and make me

happy. For now its just Piles, here and there.

d. I have space for everything and everything in its space.

a. Easy organization bright and cheerful.

b. Detailed organization in clear baskets and

containers

c. Easy organization with labels and solid containers
and baskets.

d. Detailed organization and put into baskets and

solid containers.

5. You like your shelves in your home to have;
a. Floor to ceiling full of all my favorite things all around me.
b. A few of my favorite items on display, and of course the things I use on a daily basis.
c. Not full, a few baskets I can use to tidy up quickly, pictures I love.
d. Small shelf ,mostly empty, a few books, a trinket or two, maybe a few pictures of my favorite people.

6. Your mail system is;
a. Nonexistent- who can keep track of a system? b. In piles all over my house.

c. In piles hidden in any spot I can find to shove it d. Junk mail thrown away immediately and piles of

bills, information, and important documents.

7. When you are stressed you like to;

a. Go shopping! Retail therapy!!

b. Starta new project- the others I have might be

stressing me out...

c. Declutter, I like my house clutter free- but where

does all of this stuff go, now?

d. I Clean, I want to organize, and sometimes will get

lost in Pinterest or magazines trying to find the perfect system and never actually get it organized.

8. In a perfect world you would be organized if you
had: (rate these from 1-4. 1 being most important)

Now that you have your answers, figure out if you have more A's, B's, C's or D's. Then find your style and go to the page that explains your style.
A's= Aristocratic
B's= Precise
C's= Conventional
D's= Persnickety

And if it isn't clear cut leave a comment, or email me at primandpropermethod@gmail.com and I can help you figure it out. It is totally normal to be more than one style. I feel that you style can change based on your area you want to declutter. I have learned that most people are very consistent in knowing if they want to see their items or if they want them hidden. But where it varies is if you want them organized in a detailed way, or if you just want it quick and more general. And once you know the specific tools that help you to organize your way you will never waste money on products that aren't made for you. Another reminder is to have your family (ages 8 and up, kids under 8 will usually be aristocratic or they will conform to your style) take the quiz as well. If you are persnickety and the only one in the family, you will have to compromise a lot. Persnickety's are way to detailed and other styles will not be able to follow your system to your satisfaction and you will become very frustrated, but remember that any organization will keep you happy, so organize the things that only you use in a persnickety way, and then use a more general system in common used spaces. Also if you have a Conventional and a Precise in your house- you will have all of the tidy piles shoved behind doors and drawers and they will become lost. There will need to be compromise there too and the biggest compromise will need to be clear baskets and labels. All styles can live in peace and tidiness, it may take a little work, but I hope that my detailed examples and solutions can help you think about ways that will make your home Organized. Maintained. and Enjoyed!

11/15 Home office/Craft areas!

Go through all paperwork and decide what is trash, and what needs to be filed, and what needs to be dealt with right away! Create space for your new piles. We have a few different systems in our office- I have a "need to get to" tray with 3 slots one for each business and then a home one. The for Billy's Business we have wall organizers and each month is a different folder! This makes it so easy to file the papers quickly and they stay organized until tax time! And the third is we turned 2 drawers into small filing cabinets and one hold all of Billys past tax papers, and the other one is for all of our household papers. One drawer is in our office, the other is in our TV stand in our living room! Sometimes you have to get creative!! Wall organizers Filing drawer in our T.V. stand If you have an actual office do you need it to be more than just an office? Ours serves many purposes- It's a craft room, game room and an office. 10/15 Drop Zone!

So today's challenge is working on your Drop Zone! I love drop zones, the space can also be called a command center, mud room, or if you want to be fancy the owners suit. Usually is in a place that everyone can see and uses! I call it the drop zone because everyone in my family, including me, comes in and drops everything we are bringing into the house in this spot.If you don't have a spot for all of this yet, then you might be using your kitchen table, or kitchen island as your drop zone, which might be driving you crazy when its time to eat dinner!  Our drop zone is right when we come in from the garage. It's not a large space, but it is in the perfect spot of the house, and I added things that we needed to allow it to have a home for all of the things I wanted to keep in this area! First thing you need to do after you have cleaned everything out and decided what you are keeping, you need to make a home for everything you want in this room. Then you will n

"Special Mail" Organization

  What do you do with your holiday cards, or any other "special mail" that you want to keep?  FIRST, I am here giving you permission if you don't have a lot of room, and have too many special cards every year, please let them go, recycle them and make room for the ones to come in 2021. I usually take that route- I love getting the cards and having them hang in my hallway, for the holiday season, then take them down, add any new addresses or birthdays to my contacts in my phone and recycle them.  ALSO it is OK to keep them as long as it is with intention and they are kept in an organized way. Piled all over the house, or shoved into a box that is shoved in a closet is not what I am talking about. This year I decided to try something different, I am going to make it a goal to keep all of the special mail (my kids get cards from all of the grandparents for all of the holidays plus all of the holiday cards, baby or  graduation  announcements, and wedding invitations ) in thi
